PIRJO PIRENEN
24.01.-11.02.2024, HIILI -SPACE

Pirjo Pirinen is a visual artist living in Lappeenranta. He graduated from LAB Lappeenranta in 2021. Pirinen's works at Taidekeskus Ahjo have been realized using different methods of art, utilizing different materials and their combinations. The paintings are made on plywood with acrylic and pencil. The starting point in the mixed-technique works is laser-cut plexiglass and recycled materials and finished objects combined with it.

Pirinen got the subjects of her works from her close circle. Cats and dogs are very important and valued family members for many people. The black cat plays a central role in Pirinen's works. The name of the exhibition comes from an old nursery rhyme in which the cat is descriptively called Kippurahäntä (Curly tail). Kis, kis also reminds me of Fazer's Kiss-kiss candies. The materials of the works have been selected according to which technique seemed most interesting at any given time. The paintings are from 2022 and the mixed media works from 2023-2024.
